{"id":10190,"date":"2020-09-21T22:46:07","date_gmt":"2020-09-21T22:46:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=10190"},"modified":"2026-04-24T01:40:34","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T04:40:34","slug":"pagcor-ggr-drops-to-us49m-in-q2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/pagcor-ggr-drops-to-us49m-in-q2","title":{"rendered":"PAGCOR: GGR drops to US$49m in Q2"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Tax income from POGOs is also expected to drop as operators leave the Philippines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Philippines.-&nbsp;The&nbsp;Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (PAGCOR) has released data showing a drop in gaming revenue among Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs)&nbsp;in the second quarter of 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Total gross gaming revenue (GGR) in Q2 amounted to Php2.42 billion (US$49.9 million) as gaming companies remained shut from April to June due to measures to Covid-19 restrictions in areas like Metro Manila.&nbsp;In Q1 GGR had surpassed&nbsp;Php52.9 billion (US$1.09 billion).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>PAGCOR<\/em><\/strong>-operated casinos only contributed Php126 million (US$2.59 million) in Q2 \u2013 about a tenth of what they brought in in Q1. Most of the income came from licensed casinos at Entertainment city, Clark and Fiesta \u2013 Php2.16 billion (US$44.5 million) compared with Php38.2 billion (US$787 million) in Q1.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over Php129 million (US$2.6 million) came from the junket sector, while in-house bingo operations lost Php72,000 (US$1,485). There was no data reported on poker operations.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>About 29 out of 62 POGOs registered with PAGCOR have <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/26-pogos-found-in-violation-of-philippine-law\" target=\"_blank\">resumed operations<\/a><\/em><\/strong> after lockdown, with a cap of 30 per cent capacity.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bureau of Internal Revenue\u2019s (BIR) goal to double tax income collection from those operators may have to wait, with signs some are leaving the country as Covid-19 cases rise and Chinese workers&#8217; <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/new-bill-to-regulate-pogos-foreign-workers\" target=\"_blank\">permits are not renewed<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Revenue deputy commissioner Arnel&nbsp;Guballa confirmed to The Inquirer that tax collections were down against pre-pandemic levels.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cPOGOs are closing down, because they are afraid of COVID-19,\u201d and that&nbsp;\u201cChinese&nbsp;workers\u2019 visas were cancelled and they went back to China because there are plenty of COVID-19-positive cases in the Philippines.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tax income from POGOs is also expected to drop as operators leave the Philippines.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":10192,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (PAGCOR) data reveals a significant decline in gross gaming revenue (GGR) for Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) and licensed casinos in Q2 2020, primarily due to COVID-19 restrictions.
