Vietnam police dismantle alleged online football betting ring ahead of 2026 World Cup
Authorities in Lam Dong province have detained four suspects.
Vietnam.- Police in Vietnam’s Lam Dong province have detained four suspects allegedly linked to an online football betting network. According to the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Lam Dong Provincial Police, the alleged betting ring handled more than VND3.5bn (US$135,000) in transactions in April and May this year.
Investigators identified Nguyen Minh Hung, 30, as the alleged leader of the network. Authorities said the group organised football betting through the online platform BXXX88, using a system of accounts that were distributed to bettors.
The investigation began after authorities detected gambling-related activity in several communities in the eastern part of Lam Dong province. Police summoned a number of individuals for questioning and subsequently detained four suspects. Officers said the investigation remains ongoing in a bid to identify anyone else connected to the operation.
Lam Dong Provincial Police used the announcement to remind the public to remain vigilant and report suspected illegal gambling activity as the 2026 World Cup approaches.
