Uzbekistan issues warning over illegal gambling advertising during World Cup 2026

Authorities have warned that unlicensed gambling promotions are proliferating online.

Uzbekistan.- Authorities have issued a warning over illegal online advertisements promoting gambling services ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to regulators, advertisements are appearing across social media platforms, websites and Telegram channels, seeking to capitalise on public interest in the tournament.

Under Article 46 of the country’s Law on Advertising, the promotion of gambling services is banned. Officials emphasised that individuals and organisations involved in creating, publishing or distributing such advertisements may face legal consequences. They stressed that the use of anonymous accounts, pseudonyms or foreign-based platforms does not shield violators from liability under Uzbek law.

The Competition Committee said it is monitoring social media channels for potential breaches. Suspected violations will be referred to enforcement bodies, including cybersecurity units within the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Authorities have encouraged citizens to avoid engaging with unauthorised gambling promotions, refrain from sharing such content and report suspected violations through official channels.
