The Star Gold Coast licence suspension deferred
The appointment of independent special manager Nicholas Weeks has been extended.
Australia.- The suspension of The Star Gold Coast’s casino licence has been deferred to March 31, 2027 in line with advice from the independent special manager, Nicholas Weeks. His appointment has been extended to the same date.
The Star Gold Coast’s casino licence was due to be suspended for 90 days from September 30. In his report, Weeks acknowledged The Star had made significant progress across its key remediation and reform initiatives, while noting that several priority remediation matters remain in progress. He noted several developments since his previous report, including implementation of a range of organisational and financial reforms.
“The six-month deferral allows The Star to continue progressing the outstanding commitments identified in its remediation plan,” the Queensland government said.
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Integrity Deb Frecklington said the government would continue to closely monitor The Star’s progress. “We have continued to set clear expectations for The Star to ensure the utmost integrity of Queensland’s casino operations,” Frecklington said.
“Those expectations remain unchanged, and while I acknowledge the work of The Star to date, this extension will allow The Star to further demonstrate its delivery on key remediation commitments under the agreement. Queenslanders can have full confidence that we will take immediate action if The Star fails to deliver on its obligations.”
