Thailand.- Thai immigration officers claim to have dismantled an illegal online gambling and cyber-fraud operation following coordinated raids on three residential properties in Bangkok’s Sai Mai district. The enforcement action reportedly resulted in the arrest of up to 14 foreign and Thai nationals allegedly tied to an illicit igaming platform known as Hong Guan, or HGA.

The operation followed a two-month investigation sparked by the escape of a 25-year-old Chinese worker. According to police reports, he had been recruited under the pretence of a legitimate administrative job but was allegedly coerced under physical threat into managing back-end systems for the gambling website and executing fraudulent call-centre schemes targeting mainland Chinese nationals.

Investigative findings revealed that the syndicate allegedly ran a 24-hour command station out of a two-storey luxury home, which the group rented. Officers executing the warrants seized hardware, including 10 computers, 58 mobile phones, an iPad, and more than 100 foreign SIM cards, primarily from Malaysia.

Officers found that several suspects had overstayed their permitted residence, while five others held student visas. Thai immigration authorities have since launched inquiries into the sponsoring educational institutions to determine whether fraudulent documentation was provided.

Authorities indicated that the group was actively preparing to relocate its operational hub to Cambodia. Thai police, in coordination with regional counterparts, are currently analysing seized bank accounts, digital devices, and financial transaction trails to map out payment channels and identify additional financial backers behind the network.
