Thailand: govt adviser arrested over alleged online gambling network

Police have arrested the former boxer and House gambling advisor Siapo Po-arnon after investigating an alleged online gambling network.

Thailand. – Crime Suppression Division officers have made a series of arrests for alleged online gambling and money-laundering.

Among were Siapo Po-arnon, a former celebrity boxer and House adviser on gambling.

Siapo Po-arnon’s house in the Phasicharoen district of Bangkok was one of seven places raided by Crime Suppression Division officers following an investigation into an alleged online gambling network.

Police also arrested Pacharapol Chansawang and 25 workers from Myanmar. According to the Bangkok Post, offers seized a gun and 11 bullets.

Last August, a House working group on the potential legalisation of online gambling invited Siapo, now 29, to participate in its deliberations as an adviser.

In January, police arrested 21 people in an operation to shut down an illegal casino at the popular coastal destination Pattaya, southeast of the capital.
