Thailand blocks over 945,000 pieces of online gambling-related content in a year

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society plans to involve young people and civil society groups in monitoring illegal gambling activity online.

Thailand.- The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) has reported that more than 945,075 gambling-related URLs and online content was blocked in Thailand during fiscal 2026 between October 2025 and September 2026.

Some 835,207 items were blocked under court orders, Of these, 749,546 were identified through MDES operations, while information from the Royal Thai Police accounted for 85,661 URLs. A further 109,868 items were removed through cooperation with digital platforms. The figures refer to URLs and online items rather than individual websites or gambling operators.

The ministry is now looking to widen its sources of information by involving the public in identifying illegal gambling content. According to digital economy minister Chaichanok Chidchob, members of the public, including young people, will be able to submit information, tips and experiences. A working group will review the reports and coordinate with digital platforms when action is required. Cases that warrant further investigation could also be referred to the Royal Thai Police.

MDES also plans to work with search engine providers to make illegal gambling websites and related content harder to find through online searches. The ministry also intends to involve the education and interior ministries and security agencies in initiatives aimed at increasing awareness of online gambling risks among children, students and young people.

Chidchob said: “Addressing the problem of online gambling, including illegal URLs, cannot be accomplished by any single agency. It requires cooperation from all sectors, especially the public, who are crucial in providing information and tips.”
