Telangana police detain man for alleged IPL cricket betting

India.- A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Telangana’s Khammam district for allegedly facilitating illegal wagering on Indian Premier League matches. The accused, identified as Gogulothu Venkatesh, was taken into custody on Thursday by officers from Konijerla Police Station during an operation in Thanikella village.
According to police, the arrest was made near Amma Tiffin Centre after authorities received a tip off. Wyra assistant commissioner of police (ACP) S. Sarangapani said the suspect was allegedly accepting bets on IPL matches through a mobile platform. Investigators alleged that Venkatesh collected money from participants and later distributed winnings after deducting a commission.
During the operation, police seized cash amounting to Rs3,000 (US$31) along with handwritten documents. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 3 of the Telangana Gaming Act, which deals with offences related to gambling and betting activities. Police said further investigation is ongoing to determine whether additional individuals were involved.
