Tabcorp fined over customer security failures
The penalty relates to four breaches of Victoria’s wagering standards between January and June 2025.
Australia.- Tabcorp has been fined AU$350,000 (US$246,000) by the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) after failing to require all customers to use multi-factor authentication to access their betting accounts. The regulator found that some accounts were accessed without authorisation and money was withdrawn as a result of the security failures.
The VGCCC said affected customers were repaid by their banks or Tabcorp. It did not disclose how many accounts were accessed or how much money was withdrawn. Tabcorp told the VGCCC it completed the implementation of multi-factor authentication in June 2025, requiring remaining customers to upgrade to a compatible version of the TAB app.
