South Korea offers rewards for reports of illegal World Cup betting sites

Authorities have launched a nationwide campaign ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

South Korea.- A reward-based reporting system has been introduced in a bid to combat illegal online gambling during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The campaign, led by the Gambling Control Commission (GCC), will run through July 31, encouraging the public to report illegal betting sites targeting South Korean users.

Under the scheme, people can receive KRW10,000 (US$6.50) for each report that leads to a site being blocked. The reward increases to KRW50,000 (US$32) when reports include bank account information linked to the operator. Monthly payments are capped at KRW600,000 (US$391) per person.

Reports can be submitted through a dedicated online platform or a national hotline and will be reviewed in cooperation with the National Police Agency and the Korea Communications Standards Commission.

GCC chairman Choi Byung-hwan said the initiative aims to ensure the World Cup remains a “healthy sports festival” free from illegal gambling. He said public participation was one of the most effective tools to prevent the spread of illegal betting.
