Singapore investigates 11 suspects over alleged illegal online gambling

The police said they are investigating potential illegal online gambling and the misuse of bank accounts.

Singapore.- Eleven people are under investigation in Singapore over suspected involvement in illegal online gambling and the misuse of bank accounts. The Singapore Police Force said enforcement actions conducted on June 11 led to the seizure of mobile phones, bank cards and other items.

Under Singapore’s Gambling Control Act, individuals found guilty of gambling with unlicensed operators can face fines of up to S$10,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both. Those who provide payment services or allow their bank accounts to be used for unlawful gambling may also face criminal penalties.

The police reiterated that major sporting events, including the FIFA World Cup 2026, typically lead to increased gambling activity and can create opportunities for illegal operators to attract bettors. Authorities urged the public to avoid unlicensed gambling platforms and to refrain from sharing or selling bank accounts.

Measures intended to curb illegal gambling during the FIFA World Cup 2026, include intensified monitoring, public awareness campaigns and continued cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the Gambling Regulatory Authority.
