Reef Casino Trust has reported that profit for the first quarter was higher than in 2019 thanks to an increase in regional and local visitors.

Australia.- Reef Casino Trust has reported a profit of AU$2.88m for the first quarter. That compares to a loss of AU$360,000 in the first quarter of 2020, but also surpasses 2019 figures.

Reef Hotel Casino in Queensland was closed between March 23 and July last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, after the reopening, the casino reported a strong trading.

The operator announced in January that it had made a profit in the third and fourth quarters of 2020.

Reef Casino Trust stated: “While it is difficult to see a swift return of international visitors to Cairns, our complex should continue to see strong local and regional support.

“As the Covid-19 vaccination continues to roll out and the State border situation stabilises further, we can expect to see more domestic visitors to Cairns.”

Authorities have announced that Australia’s international borders will remain closed until at least mid-2022 to avoid the arrival of new Covid-19 cases.
