Racing NSW names new chair
Saranne Cooke has become Racing NSW’s first female chair.
Australia.- Liquor & Gaming New South Wales has announced that Saranne Cooke has been appointed as the chair of Racing NSW. She is the first woman to assume the position.
Cooke, from Bathurst, has served on the board since 2015 and as deputy chair since December 2021. She has experience in racing, education, sport, superannuation and not-for-profit sectors. She is chair of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (South Eastern section) and the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians.
Her appointment comes amid a broader restructuring within Racing NSW, with the former minister for gaming and racing and sport and recreation, the Hon Kevin Greene AM, joining as an ordinary member of the board for the second time. The deputy chair position is now vacant and the selection panel has been reconvened.
Racing NSW is responsible for controlling, supervising, and regulating thoroughbred racing across the state, as per the Thoroughbred Racing Act 1996.
