PointsBet forecasts US$15.4m revenue decline in first half FY27
Declining activity among high-value customers and punter-friendly AFL results contributed to a weaker financial outlook for the period.
Australia.- PointsBet Holdings has forecast group revenue of A$113m (US$79.1m) for the six months ended September 30, down 16 per cent from A$135m (US$94.5m) in the corresponding period last year. Normalised EBITDA is expected to come in at a loss of A$6m to A$8m (US$4.2m to US$5.6m).
In a trading update filed with the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) on October 13, PointsBet identified its Australian operations as the main source of the revenue decline, citing the challenge of stricter compliance measures for high-value customers. The bookmaker said turnover and revenue from its highest-value customer group fell by double digits throughout the half compared with the same period last year amid proactive compliance measures that it said it considered necessary despite their impact on revenue.
The company has been seeking to attract more mainstream sports bettors. Although this strategy generated gains in active customers, turnover and structural net win margin, the benefits were offset by weaker actual net win margins during the period. PointsBet attributed the margin pressure partly to sporting results in August and September, particularly in the Australian Football League (AFL), which favoured bettors.
The company said its Pull ’Em product, launched across games during the AFL season and FIFA World Cup to attract mass-market customers and promote Same Game Multis, increased sports turnover but weighed on net win and gross profit margins due to higher promotional costs and AFL product fees.
PointsBet will release its first-half FY2027 results on October 30.
