Philippine police say 9,401 arrested over illegal gambling in July

Police say over US$53,000 in betting money and gambling equipment was seized during nationwide operations.

The Philippines.- The Philippine National Police (PNP) has reported that July operations resulted in the arrest of 9,401 individuals in connection to alleged illegal gambling. It says it confiscated more than PHP3.2m (US$53,000) in betting money, along with gambling equipment and other related materials.

PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said community reports remain one of the most effective ways to detect illegal gambling sites that continue to operate in both urban and rural areas. According to the police, residents play an important role in helping authorities locate gambling hubs that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Nartatez stressed that its enforcement extends beyond Metro Manila. with the same level of focus on municipalities, provinces and remote communities.
