PAGCOR releases over US$1.1m in relief aid for typhoon and flood victims
The Philippine gaming regulator has distributed 47,192 food and non-food relief packs to communities across Luzon and Metro Manila.
The Philippines.- The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has released an initial PHP65.60m (US$1.14m) in food and non-food assistance to communities in Luzon and Metro Manila affected by Tropical Cyclones Luis and Maymay and the enhanced southwest monsoon, known as Habagat. The assistance comprises 47,192 relief items, including 23,596 food packs worth PHP28.91m (US$503,000) and 23,596 non-food packs valued at PHP36.69m (US$638,000).
. Heavy rains associated with the tropical cyclones and the Habagat caused severe flooding in Luzon and Metro Manila, disrupting classes and government operations.
Alejandro H. Tengco, PAGCOR chairman and CEO, said the agency began distributing relief packs to affected areas on August 8. The relief goods have either reached or are on their way to Bulacan, La Union, Baguio City, Isabela, Nueva Ecija, Cavite and Rizal provinces, as well as parts of Pangasinan, Quezon, Batangas, Camarines Norte, Abra, Laguna and Pampanga. In Metro Manila, assistance has also been allocated to Parañaque and Marikina.
Tengco said: “We will continue to stand with our kababayans in times of need. Through our continuing disaster response efforts, PAGCOR will do its part to help affected communities recover and get back on their feet,” he concluded.
