PAGCOR hosts Malawi regulators for gaming oversight knowledge exchange
The Philippine regulator received officials from the Malawi Gaming & Lotteries Authority to share regulatory best practices.
The Philippines.- The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has hosted a delegation from the Malawi Gaming & Lotteries Authority (MAGLA) for a regulatory knowledge exchange. The meeting was intended to help strengthen Malawi’s gaming regulatory framework and promote the sharing of industry best practices.
MAGLA is the national regulatory authority responsible for overseeing gaming, betting and lottery activities in Malawi as established under the country’s Gaming and Lotteries Act of 2022. According to PAGCOR, the visit forms part of its efforts to foster international cooperation and strengthen regulatory standards through knowledge sharing with overseas counterparts.
PAGCOR chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco said the visit reflected the Philippines’ growing reputation as a reference for gaming regulation, particularly among emerging markets. “We welcome the opportunity to exchange best practices with our counterparts because we can always learn from other jurisdictions, and they certainly can learn a lot from our experience as a country with a more mature gaming industry,” he said.
The regulator said interest in the Philippine model has been growing in recent years. In January 2024, officials from Osaka City and the Japan Gambling Commission visited to study the country’s approach to regulating and operating integrated resorts. During that visit, the Japanese delegation toured integrated resort casinos in Entertainment City as Osaka prepared for Japan’s first integrated resort by 2030. Cambodia also sent a delegation as the country works to strengthen oversight of its gaming industry.
