IPI furloughs 500 workers
Imperial Pacific International is the latest operator to cut staff numbers after being forced to close due to Covid-19.
Saipan.- Imperial Pacific International (IPI) has furloughed 575 employees due the forced casino closure as part of efforts to defeat the Coronavirus outbreak.
IPI Human Resources Director, Redie Dela Cruz, informed the Commonwealth Casino Commission about the decision last week.
According to local press, he explained the closure of the casino had forced the operator to furlough a large number of non-essential staff.
Dela Cruz said those furloughed have been informed that they will not return to work until at least June 12.
He added that all recruitment efforts for construction workers have also been suspended.
The news comes at a difficult time for the operator.
Last week, after being sued by former contractor Pacific Rim Land Development LLC, IPI has been ordered to pay US$5.6million for breaching a contract.
