Woman arrested for alleged illegal currency exchange at Macau casino

Police officers allege that the woman offered currency exchange to two gamblers.

Macau.- A Chinese woman has been arrested in connection with an alleged illegal currency exchange operation at a Cotai casino. Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Cheong Kim Fong said during a press conference that the suspect is a 54-year-old unemployed woman with the surname Guo.

The spokesman said PJ officers patrolling a Cotai casino witnessed a woman offering currency exchange to two gamblers. They reported that one of the gamblers scanned a QR code provided by the woman and she handed over cash, then the gamblers entered the casino and the woman left. The gamblers turned witnesses in the case and said the woman had exchanged HK$30,000 for 28,200 yuan.

The authorities suspect that the woman had been conducting unauthorised exchange activities since the beginning of July. She has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office.
