SkyCity wants to swap gambling tables for electronics machines

Although swaps of this kind are permitted under New Zealand legislation, this is the first time such an application has been made

New Zealand.- SkyCity Entertainment Limited wants to swap blackjack tables for electronic gaming machines in its Hamilton casino. The company will go this Tuesday to the New Zealand gambling regulator to ask permission to make the change.

The proposal of SkyCity of changing three blackjack tables for 60 electronic gaming machines has one big issue. The company argued that the space that the tables occupy can be compared to a similar space for 60 EMGs.

If the submission is approved, the number of machines will increase from 339 to 399 and only 20 blackjack tables left.

Although swaps of this kind are permitted under the legislation, the application was published and lot of people rejected it. Lot of them think that the creation of more EGM will make a lot of damage to the society.

This is the first time such an application has been made in New Zealand. The public hearing, overseen by the Gambling Commission, is to be held at in Te Rapa. The public is welcome to attend, but cannot speak or ask questions.
