New US$2.24bn casino proposed in Vietnam

A new casino project has been proposed for Vietnam’s coastal island of Hon Tre.

Vietnam.- A US$2.24bn casino project has been proposed in Vietnam’s Khanh Hoa province.

The proposed casino resort would be on coastal island Hon Tre, near Khanh Hoa’s provincial capital, Nha Trang.

Authorities are said to be seeking approval from the country’s politburo and prime minister. Hospitality firm Vinpearl Co is backing the project according to local news sources.

At present, just two casinos in Vietnam are allowed to cater for local players under a national government scheme. Players must meet certain requirements.

This week, operators in Vietnam asked the government to ease the rules on locals entering casinos in order to boost revenue lost as a result of travel restrictions imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
