The newly established National Cybersecurity Agency will work with licensed operators, telecom providers and government bodies to tackle offshore gambling platforms.
Azerbaijan.- A new National Cybersecurity Agency (NCA) in Azerbaijan will play a role in tackling unlicensed betting and gaming operations. Established by presidential decree and operating under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, the agency will oversee cybersecurity supervision, threat monitoring and the protection of digital infrastructure. That will include tackling offshore gambling operators.
Under its mandate, the NCA will work with licensed operators, telecom providers and government bodies and will be able to take measures to prevent unlicensed gambling conducted through telecommunications networks. It will be empowered to request information from government institutions, internet service providers, telecom operators, companies and individuals as part of its enforcement activities.
The new agency will also be tasked with protecting critical information infrastructure and raising public awareness about cyber risks. According to Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Samaddin Asadov, the agency will build on the experience and capabilities previously developed by the Electronic Security Service.
