Myanmar steps up online gambling enforcement in Yangon
Authorities say a 10-member committee is collecting daily intelligence.
Myanmar.- Yangon Region Security and Border Affairs Minister Brigadier General Win Tint has said that a 10-member Yangon Region Online Fraud and Online Gambling Prevention Committee is working to tackle illegal online gambling in the city. He said the committee is chaired by the region’s chief minister and is working with ward and village administrators to collect information on suspected online gambling daily.
The minister provided the update in response to a call from legislator Kyaw Min Htet, who raises concerns that online gambling remained widespread despite Myanmar’s Online Fraud Prevention Law. He called on authorities to track bank accounts and mobile payment services used for gambling deposits and withdrawals, including KPay and Wave Money.
