The property giant plans new developments across key tourism and business hubs, while establishing a new hotel group.
The Philippines.- Megaworld Corp. is stepping up its hospitality expansion in the Philippines, targeting nearly 12,000 hotel rooms by 2032. The company said its expansion over the next five to seven years will include both homegrown and international hotel brands, with new developments planned in destinations including Palawan and Ilocos Norte.
Megaworld is part of the Alliance Global Group, which also has interests in the gaming sector through Travelers International Hotel Group Inc., developer of Newport World Resorts in Manila. It’s established Megaworld Global Hotels and Resorts as a new hospitality structure designed to consolidate and manage its hotel portfolio under two focused groups.
Megaworld Hotels and Resorts will oversee hotel developments in Metro Manila, Boracay, Batangas and Cebu. Meanwhile, Megaworld Global Hospitality will manage the company’s international-branded properties, including Mövenpick Manila Bay Westside, as well as new hotels in Palawan and three properties in Iloilo.
The company has appointed Socrates Alvaro as managing director of Megaworld Hotels and Resorts and Anna Vergara as managing director of Megaworld Global Hospitality. Megaworld said the appointments combine local hospitality expertise with experience in global hotel standards and international brand management.
The expansion is expected to add almost 2,000 rooms through six new hotels over the next three years. Mövenpick Manila Bay Westside will be located within the Westside City development in Entertainment City, Manila.
Kevin Tan, president and CEO of Alliance Global Group, Megaworld’s parent company, said: “We see tourism as one of the most powerful engines of sustainable economic growth. Every hotel we build creates jobs, supports local businesses, brings visitors to new destinations and opens more opportunities for communities to prosper.”
