Malaysian police arrest 3 for alleged illegal cockfighting

Malaysia.- The Penampang District Police Headquarters has arrested three elderly men over alleged involvement in illegal cockfighting and gambling. According to superintendent Sammy Newton, the suspects were arrested during an operation code-named Ops Dadu at 4.30pm on Sunday, May 25, 2025, in Kampung Sarapung, Kolopis.

The IPD Penampang Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team conducted the raid following a tip-off. Other people at the scene fled. Police seized four live roosters, three cages, a makeshift arena for cockfighting, and RM319 (€66.15) in cash, suspected to be proceeds from illegal betting.

Those arrested are being held at Penampang IPD for questioning and will be charged under Section 21 of the Animal Welfare Enactment 2015. The police appealed to the public to continue reporting information about illegal activities.
