Macau: visitors down over New Year holiday
Number of arrivals in Macau for New Year down compared to the daily average during Christmas.
Macau.- New Year holiday has not been as successful as the Christmas period for Macau tourism.
According to official figures from the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the daily average number of arriving visitors in the period 31 December to 3 January hit 21,242.
The MGTO also revealed that the average daily tally of visitor arrivals recorded for the “New Year” break marked a 13.3 per cent decrease compared to the “Christmas” season (23 December to 27 December inclusive) – and a 1 per cent decline when compared to the average daily visitor arrivals for the full month of December.
According to the data, 92.4 per cent Macau’s average 31 December to 3 January visitors, or 19,629 arrivals daily, were from mainland China.
The average hotel occupancy rate of Macau’s hotels – including guesthouses – reached 67.2 per cent for during the period.
The average hotel occupancy rates of Macau’s three four and five-star hotels was 73 per cent, 69.9 per cent and 67.6 per cent respectively during the period.
The average room rate of Macau’s hotels and guesthouses charged during the New Year break stood at MOP1,127.6 (US$141.2).
The average nightly rate for three-star hotels during the holiday period was MOP694.2 while for five-star hotels it was MOP1,447.7, and four-star hotels MOP701.1.
