Macau still receiving hotel bookings for Chinese New Year
Although the hotels have had many cancellations, new bookings from mainland China are continuing to come in.
Macau.- Macau continues to show some optimism that it will see an uptick in visitor numbers and revenue over the Chinese New Year holiday period.
The annual Spring Festival usually sees more than 400 million people usually travel within China but authorities have advised against travel this year in a bid to prevent an escalation in Covid-19 cases.
Hotels in Macau have seen increasing numbers of cancellations as a result but note that they are still receiving fresh bookings from mainland Chinses tourists.
Ian Coughlan, president of Wynn Macau president, also noted that the number of Covid-19 cases in mainland China had dropped from “from the hundreds to the teens,” inspiring more confidence in travel.
Macau’s casinos saw their best monthly performance since the Covid-19 pandemic began last month with a 2.6 per cent month-on-month increase in gross gaming revenue (GGR).
