Macau police arrest six over casino proxy betting scheme
Group hid a phone in a shoebox to livestream slot machines from a Cotai casino for remote mainland gamblers
Macau.- The Judiciary Police have arrested six mainland Chinese suspects over an alleged proxy betting scheme that livestreamed slot-machine games from a Cotai casino to gamblers in mainland China. The case has been passed to the Public Prosecutions Office.
The group reportedly entered the casino in the early hours of August 22. They are said to have hidden a mobile phone inside a shoebox that was placed in a shopping bag that had a small opening to allow the device to film the slot machine screen while the group received remote betting instructions.
Police said some of the group were in charge of supplies and money, others handled the live broadcast, changed the camera view and kept watch. Police seized seven mobile phones, HK$23,000 (about US$2,950) in cash, and slot machine vouchers worth HK$67,975 (around US$8,700). One person is suspected of running at least five similar operations since 2025.
