Macau hotel occupancy reaches 91.6% in July
The average occupancy rate of hotel establishments was up 0.5 percentage points from a year earlier.
Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has reported that the average hotel occupancy rate in Macau was 91.6 per cent in July, up 0.5 percentage points year-on-year, despite a decline in the number of guests. The rates for 5-star (94.2 per cent) and 4-star hotels (90.3 per cent) showed respective year-on-year growth of 0.2 and 3.8 percentage points, whereas the rate for 3-star hotels (85.5 per cent) dropped by 1.5 points.
The number of guests was down by 4.3 per cent year-on-year to 1,229,000. Those from the Chinese mainland (923,000) and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (145,000) decreased by 3.9 per cent and 13.8 per cent respectively, while international guests (89,000) increased by 9.5 per cent year. Among the latter, those from India (8,000), Thailand (8,000) and the USA (6,000) rose by 81.1 per cent, 21.2 per cent and 24.4 per cent respectively, while those from the Republic of Korea (25,000) and Japan (5,000) fell by 3 per cent and 7.7 per cent.
The number of inbound package tour visitors totalled 141,000, down by 6.7 per cent year-on-year. Tour visitors from the Chinese mainland dropped by 7.2 per cent year-on-year to 123,000.
The DSEC reported that in the first seven months of 2026, the average occupancy rate was 90.6 per cent, up by 1.2 percentage points year-on-year. The number of guests was down by 1.4 per cent year-on-year to 8,367,000, although international guests (753,000) increased by 12.2 per cent. A total of 990,000 inbound package tour visitors were recorded, a fall of 11.4 per cent year-on-year.
The number of visitor arrivals increased by 2.4 per cent year-on-year to 3,542,218 in July 2026. Same-day visitors (2,107,744) rose by 6.4 per cent year-on-year while overnight visitors (1,434,474) dropped by 2.9 per cent. The average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.1 days, with that of overnight visitors (2.4 days) remaining unchanged.
