Macau.- Figures suggest a strong start to the holiday period in Macau. Close to 751,000 visitor arrivals were recorded over the first four days of China’s October Golden Week, and daily traffic reached an October Golden Week record of 210,325 arrivals on October 4.

The average daily arrivals stand at 187,000 per day so far. This is 25 per cent above the Macao Government Tourism Office’s forecast of 150,000 daily visitors for the seven-day holiday, although it’s natural that numbers at the start of the week will be higher than those at the end so the forecast may turn out to be on the ball.

Daily arrivals for the first three days were 169,635 on October 1, 179,253 on October 2 and 191,661 on October 3. The latter was a new October record, which was immediately broken the next day. Macau’s overall single-day visitor arrival record remains in 247,729 set on May 2, 2026 during the May Day holiday.

Mainland China is the primary source market, with visitors from the mainland accounting for 467,348, or 86.5 per cent, of arrivals during the first three days. Hong Kong was the second-largest source market, contributing 51,423 arrivals.

On October 4, the Border Gate recorded more than 98,000 visitor arrivals, while more than 45,000 entered through Hengqin and over 29,000 crossed via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. Total movements, including residents and other travellers, exceeded 844,000. Visitor movements alone exceeded 424,000, comprising approximately 210,000 arrivals and nearly 214,000 departures.

Across the first four days, the Border Gate accounted for 355,199 visitor arrivals, followed by Hengqin with 163,189 and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge with 104,057. Macau authorities had forecast between 5.2 million and 5.4 million total border crossings during the October 1-7 holiday, equivalent to an average of 740,000 to 770,000 movements per day.
