Macau GDP up 2.9% in the first three quarters of 2026, preliminary figures show
Stronger construction activity and non-gaming tourism exports helped sustain economic growth despite weaker gaming services exports in the third quarter.
Key takeaways:
- Macau’s GDP reached MOP316.13bn in the first three quarters of 2026, representing 2.9 per cent real growth year-on-year.
- Economic output for the period stood at 89.8 per cent of the level recorded in the same period of 2019.
- Third-quarter GDP increased by 0.1 per cent year-on-year to MOP106.06bn.
Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has reported a preliminary gross domestic product (GDP) figure of MOP316.13 (US$39.1m) for the first three quarters of 2026. That would represent growth of 2.9 per cent year-on-year in real terms. Overall economic output would be 89.8 per cent of the level seen in the same period of 2019.
Exports of services saw year-on-year growth of 3.4 per cent, which the DSEC said was driven by rising visitor arrivals. Gross fixed capital formation grew by 4.6 per cent “owing to the orderly progress of various public and private construction projects” while private consumption expenditure increased by 2.8 per cent.
The preliminary GDP figure for Q3 is MOP106.06bn (US$13.1m), which would represent growth of 0.1 per cent year-on-year in real terms. Overall economic output is estimated to have recovered to 91.3 per cent of the total in the same quarter of 2019. However, exports of gaming services fell 4.8 per cent year-on-year.
Exports of other tourism services rose 6.6 per cent, reportedly driven by higher visitor numbers during the summer peak travel season and tourism promotion initiatives. Gross fixed capital formation grew by 17.2 per cent. “This growth effectively offset the drop in exports of gaming services, reflecting the economic resilience of Macau with the capacity to withstand risks, and providing support for steady economic development in the third quarter,” the government said.
