Macau casino GGR averages MOP 633m per day in early September
Casino revenue in Macau eased at the start of September, although the daily run-rate remained above last year’s level.
Macau.- Gross gaming revenue (GGR) at Macau casinos averaged MOP 633m (US$78.34m) per day during the first six days of September, according to UBS, which based the estimate on its own channel checks. That daily run-rate would represent a 4 per cent rise year-on-year but an 11.5 per cent decline from August’s average of MOP706m per day.
According to the bank, mass-market daily revenue was down by 10 to 12 per cent month-on-month, while VIP volume was down between 8 and 10 per cent, with VIP hold estimated at 3.0 to 3.3 per cent. UBS noted that the monthly comparison was consistent with the seasonal pattern seen before the pandemic. Macau’s average daily GGR declined by around 5 per cent between August and September from 2015 to 2019.
Macau recorded just over MOP 21.89bn in casino GGR in August, down 1.2 per cent year-on-year but 8.1 per cent higher than July. For September, the current consensus forecast is for average daily GGR of between MOP 650m and MOP 670m.
The bank also reviewed hotel bookings ahead of China’s National Day holiday, known as the October Golden Week, which will run from October 1 to 7 this year. The survey of 31 hotels found that five fewer properties were sold out compared with the same period last year, while average comparable hotel prices were 22 per cent lower year-on-year.
