Lance Gokongwei takes PhilWeb chairmanship
Gokongwei joined PhilWeb’s board in July after a personal investment in the company.
The Philippines.- PhilWeb Corp. has appointed Lance Y. Gokongwei as its new chairman following the resignation of Crisanto Alcid as chairman and chief executive officer. The appointment comes after Gokongwei joined PhilWeb’s board in July, weeks after confirming a personal investment of PHP2.03bn (US$32.6m) in the listed gaming technology company.
According to PhilWeb, Gokongwei will serve as chairman for the remainder of Alcid’s current term. The company has not yet appointed a new CEO.
Gokongwei said the leadership transition represents “a critical inflexion point”. “Our objective is clear: to deploy institutional-grade, AI-powered infrastructure that establishes a new operational standard for security and compliance across the regulated digital ecosystem,” he said.
The company has talked up AI initiatives focusing on real-time operational monitoring, algorithmic risk management, regulatory compliance automation, anti-fraud detection and data-driven customer lifecycle optimisation.
