Kangwon Land and Korea Racing Authority explore AI for gambling harm prevention
Around 100 industry, government and academic experts discussed the use of AI and user data to identify gambling risks early and strengthen player protection in South Korea.
South Korea.- Kangwon Land and the Korea Racing Authority have held the Second Gambling Industry Policy Forum in Seoul, focusing on how artificial intelligence can support earlier detection and the prevention of problem gambling. Around 100 representatives from government agencies, gambling operators, academia and the technology sector attended the event, which was held under the theme “The Era of AI Transformation: A Paradigm Shift in User Protection.”
The forum presented several proposals for using behavioural and transaction data to identify users who may be at risk. Speakers discussed AI models capable of predicting problem gambling and intervention strategies tailored to individual risk levels. The Korea Racing Authority presented a user protection model for online horse racing based on AI and big data. Under the proposed system, online purchase data would be analysed to identify at-risk users, who could then receive warnings, counselling or betting limit restrictions.
Kangwon Land presented its plans to use AI and user behavioural data as part of a broader user protection system. The initiative is intended to complement existing prevention measures, which have traditionally relied more heavily on psychological assessments. CEO Kim Do-gyun said the operator would strengthen proactive prevention efforts using AI and behavioural data and work towards a user protection framework that can be applied across its operations.
