Indonesia warns civil servants over online gambling as cases rise in West Java
Authorities in Bandung Regency urged government employees to stop gambling online and warned that those found guilty could face prosecution.
Indonesia.- Authorities in Indonesia’s West Java province have warned civil servants to stay away from illegal online gambling after the Bandung Regency Representative Council said it was verifying data showing that 1,066 civil servants placed illegal online bets in 2025. The council urged employees involved in gambling to stop immediately and warned that those found guilty could face prosecution.
“There must be no cover-ups, and no one must be protected,” a council spokesperson said, adding that action would be taken against civil servants found to have violated the law. The council called on investigators to complete the verification process as quickly as possible to protect the integrity of local government and maintain public trust.
Data showed that the number of civil servants identified as online gamblers rose 74 per cent from 613 in 2024 to 1,066 in 2025. Their combined illegal gambling deposits also increased by 20 per cent to more than US$373,000.
