Indonesia claims removal 4 million online gambling posts

Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid reported that authorities took down 5.15 million items of negative digital content between October 2024 and September 11, 2026

Indonesia.- The Indonesian government says it has removed over four million online gambling posts as part of its digital enforcement targeting unregulated gaming activity. Speaking at the Bali Tech Week 2026 conference on October 19, Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid reported that authorities took down 5.15 million items of negative digital content between October 2024 and September 11, 2026. Online gambling promotions and operations accounted for more than 4 million items across various online platforms.

The figures underscore Indonesia’s continued strict regulatory posture towards online gambling, which remains illegal under national law. Regulatory oversight of online channels has become a central component of the government’s broader effort to mitigate unauthorised digital gaming operations and protect consumers from unlicensed platforms targeting local users.

Meanwhile, Indonesian telecom regulators are strengthening user verification measures to curb illicit digital activities. Minister Hafid highlighted the implementation of biometric verification for new mobile SIM registration, a process designed to secure telecom networks and prevent the anonymous creation of accounts frequently associated with illegal online gaming operations. According to official data, 31.1 million mobile users have completed biometric verification to date.
