Indian police raid illegal gambling operation during Janmashtami festival in Odisha
14 people were arrested.
India.- Police in Odisha carried out a major operation against alleged illegal gambling during the Janmashtami festival in Sundargarh district. Police raided a football field near the Dharuadihi police station, where large-scale betting activities were allegedly taking place.
The raid, conducted late Saturday night, resulted in the arrest of 14 people and the seizure of more than US$1,000 in cash, along with 20 cars, 17 motorcycles and around 20 mobile phones. Some participants managed to escape. Police said those detained came from nearby districts such as Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Bamra.
The case has been registered under the Odisha Prevention of Gambling Act, and police indicated that further arrests could follow as the investigation continues.
