Investment in Indian gaming startups rockets

India.- A boom in online gaming has seen exponential growth in the amount of investment in Indian gaming startups during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Venture capital funds have invested US$438m in Indian gaming startups since April 2020, of which US$107m came in 2021.
Salone Sehgal of at Lumikai, an early phase investment outfit focused on gaming, said: “There is equal interest from financial institutions as well as strategic capital looking for partnerships and acquisitions in India.”
The indian gaming startup Mobile Premier League (MPL) has raised US$95m and is now valued at US$800m, putting it on track for unicorn status.
