India: 3 more arrested for illegal cricket betting in Pune
Three more people have been arrested on charges of receiving digital wagers for the Indian Premier League cricket match.
India.- Police in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, have arrested three men for illegally taking online bets during an Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match.
Police say the men tried to escape when police attempted to arrest them Friday. Officers are searching for a fourth man. According to local media, the main illegal bookie, from Chembur in Mumbai, is still on the run.
In March, police arrested 33 people for alleged betting on cricketduring the last India-England cricket match.
The new head of the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Board of Control for Cricket in India recently argued that the legalisation of sports betting would encourage match-fixing.
