Hong Kong.- The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has inaugurated the Jockey Club Student Village IV at the University of Hong Kong in Wong Chuk Hang. The village was constructed with a HK$154m (US$19.79m) grant from the HKJC Charities Trust awarded in 2020. It aims to attract global talent to Hong Kong, adding diversity to the student community and promoting the city’s development as an international education hub.

The village’s inauguration was led by HKJC steward Lester Huang; professor Xiang Zhang, president and vice-chancellor of the University of Hong Kong; and Dr. Peter Wong, chairman of the Council of the University of Hong Kong.

Huang said: “This is the fourth residential complex to be part funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for the University of Hong Kong. It will add valuable diversity to our student community and further Hong Kong’s development into an international education hub.”

The complex has four residences in two 17-floor towers, offering over 1,200 beds for local and international undergraduate and postgraduate students. It features a smart housing system with electronic door locks, room booking, and laundry status monitoring. It also provides shared facilities such as a dining hall, study rooms, relaxation areas and other amenities.

This village is one of Hong Kong’s first projects to use modular integrated construction, which helps cut costs, boosts efficiency, and reduces waste and carbon emissions. The HKJC Charities Trust previously funded the construction of Jockey Club Student Villages I, II, and III, as well as the Mui Fong Street Student residence, which together provide more than 5,000 beds.
