HK Jockey Club posts record US$238m in bets during the Chinese New Year
The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s revenue grew 1 per cent when compared to last year, with a total of 11 races.
Hong Kong.- Despite Covid-19 restrictions, the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has set a new turnover record for its Chinese New Year races, taking HK$1.86bn (US$238m) worth of bets. Turnover was up about 1 per cent from HK$1.84bn in 2021. There were 11 race in 2021, up from 10 in 2020.
Last September, the HKJC had posted a turnover of HK$279.7bn (US$35.9bn) in its financial results for the 2020/21 season. The Jockey Club then reported a record opening day turnover with HK$1.44bn (US$185m) in total betting. This was 4.3 per cent higher than the record set a year ago.
The club had previously posted an 11.6 per cent drop in revenue in its financial results for the 2019/2020 fiscal year. Total revenue amounted to HK$218.7bn (US$28.2bn).
