Genting Singapore’s expansion at Resorts World Sentosa faces delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Singapore.- Genting Singapore has put back its planned SG$4.5bn expansion of Resorts World Sentosa until 2022, according to senior management.
The company plans to expand the property’s gaming floor by 50 per cent and add further hotel rooms, restaurants and retail facilities.
Union Gaming’s John DeCree said the company’s decision to delay the development was due to disruptions in the supply chain and labour force caused by the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the need for design changes to address health and safety requirements.
DeCree said: “That said, Genting Singapore reaffirmed its commitment to the scope of RWS 2.0 and the capex budget of SG$4.5bn.”
Meanwhile, analysts at Kenanga Research have raised concerns about the recovery of the resort since returning to pre-pandemic levels will largely depend on the lifting of current travel restrictions.
