Genting HK cancels two sailings due to Covid-19 countermeasures
Genting Hong Kong Ltd had to cancel two casino cruises due to Hong Kong’s new countermeasures to avoid a rise in Covid-19 cases.
Hong Kong.- Dream Cruises, a brand of casino cruise ship operator Genting Hong Kong Co. Ltd., said that due to the city government’s 14-day ban from January 7, the company was forced to cancel the two-night cruise originally scheduled to leave Hong Kong on the same day.
Due to a new outbreak of Covid-19 cases under the Omicron variant, authorities have decided to strengthen social distancing measures.
Dream Cruises emphasized that the cancellation of the trip by its Genting Dream ship was “due to government instructions and not due to any Covid-19-related incidents on board”.
The company also announced that the earlier two-night cruise on the Genting Dream, which was scheduled to leave on Wednesday, had also been cancelled.
A few days ago, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, said that an outbreak of Omicron variant Covid-19 cases in Hong Kong could hinder the city’s chances of reaching a quarantine-free travel arrangement with mainland China.
The reopening of the border between Hong Kong and Macau was highly expected as Hong Kong has historically accounted for 15 per cent to 20 per cent of Macau’s total gaming revenue.
