The Malaysian casino company has announced that an employee from its security department has tested positive.

Malaysia.- A casino worker from Resorts World Genting tested positive for Covid-19 during a routine safety screening that has put the operator on alert since it’s the first case detected at the venue.

The casino property, located at Genting Highlands, an upland area near the country’s capital, Kuala Lumpur, remains open despite the news.

Resort World Genting, operated by Genting Malaysia Bhd, said in a press release: “The case was detected during our regular health and safety screening procedures for employees and contractors which include medical tests”.

It said the employee was based at Resorts World Genting’s warehouse loading bay and did not interact with any of our guests.

“The employee’s movements were restricted and traceable,” the company said. “The affected employee is currently receiving medical attention at a government hospital.”

According to the operator, authorities have been notified and they are conducting contact tracing.

The announcement said: “Employees who had close contact with the affected individual are currently being isolated and screened. We have conducted thorough sanitisation and disinfection of all the affected areas in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s guidelines.”

Resort World Genting also made clear that the venue will remain open: “We will continue to take the necessary precautionary measures as the health and safety of all our guests and employees have always been our utmost priority.”
