Galaxy chairman Lui raises stake with US$16.6m share buy

The investment takes Lui’s disclosed interest above 54 per cent.

Macau.- Galaxy Entertainment Group chairman Francis Lui Yiu Tung has increased his stake in the Macau casino operator after acquiring 4.613 million shares for about HK$130.3m (US$16.6m). The transaction took place on October 2 and was disclosed to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on October 6.

Lui paid an average of HK$28.25 (US$3.60) for each share. Following the purchase, his interest in Galaxy Entertainment increased to about 2.375 billion shares, representing 54.24 per cent of the company’s issued share capital. His previous disclosed interest stood at 54.14 per cent. His disclosed holdings are held through a number of entities and a discretionary family trust.

Galaxy Entertainment shares ended trading at HK$30.52 (US$3.89) on October 6, down by around 20 per cent in the year to date amid pressure on Macau gaming stocks. The stock had dipped by 4.17 per cent to HK$30.30 (US$3.86) on October 2, the day Lui bought the shares.

The company is one of Macau’s six licensed casino concessionaires and operates Galaxy Macau and other gaming and hospitality properties in Cotai. It reported HK$24.23bn (US$3.09bn) in net revenue for the first half of 2026, an increase of 4 per cent from the same period a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA rose 1 per cent to HK$6.96bn (US$886m), while attributable net profit increased 1 per cent to HK$5.28bn (US$673m). The group ended June with HK$37.7bn (US$4.80bn) in cash and liquid investments and HK$1.83bn (US$233m) in debt.
