Former Cambodian PM urges action against officials linked to illegal gambling and online scams

Hun Sen has called for prosecutions and asset seizures.

Cambodia.- Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen has urged Cambodian authorities to take stronger action against officials allegedly involved in illegal gambling and online scam networks. In a public statement, the former prime minister said enforcement efforts should target not only the operators, but also “complicit officials and those who fail to execute orders,” he said.

He said authorities should prosecute those involved and confiscate assets tied to illegal operations. Hun also said that provincial governors, military police commanders and police chiefs who failed to enforce government directives should be removed from office.

According to the government, authorities raided more than 250 online scam centres between July 2025 and mid-April 2026, including 91 casinos allegedly connected to fraudulent activities.
