Cambodia’s Takeo province orders crackdown on Vietnamese lottery sales and online gambling

The governor has instructed authorities to tighten border inspections and to monitor casinos, coffee shops and entertainment venues for illegal betting.

Cambodia.-Vei Samnang, the governor of Takeo province, has issued an order to clamp down on the illegal sale of Vietnamese lottery tickets as well as online gambling, including online cockfighting and lottery-style betting systems. He made announced the measure during a meeting of the Provincial Unified Command Committee.

Samnang said authorities had received reports of Vietnamese lottery tickets being openly sold in Doun Kaev, the provincial capital. He instructed officials to strengthen enforcement efforts and prevent the distribution of tickets. The governor also directed authorities along the Cambodia-Vietnam border to conduct stricter inspections to stop the import and circulation of Vietnamese lottery products.

In addition, local authorities were told to intensify action against illegal gambling operations, particularly online cockfighting and lottery-related betting reportedly taking place at coffee shops and entertainment venues. Samnang ordered inspections of selected casino properties in the province, including licensed establishments, to ensure that no illegal gambling was taking place on site.
