Betting revenues could exceed World Cup levels during Tokyo 2020
LeTou CEO Paul Fox says that should China face the USA in a basketball showdown, revenues could surpass World Cup Final levels.
China.- Some industry insiders are predicting that this year’s Tokyo Olympics could see betting volumes exceed those recorded during the most recent World Cup.
According to Paul Fox, CEO of online gambling operator LeTou, should the Chinese men’s basketball team face the USA, betting revenues could be higher than the FIFA World Cup final.
“With the upcoming Olympic Games taking place in an Asian time zone, we will expect monstrous traffic during the basketball competition in particular,” Fox said in an interview with Gambling Insider.
“If the Chinese national team played the star-studded USA team then we could see revenue on a par with the FIFA World Cup final. Time zones are always critical whatever the sporting event, as live betting makes up a huge number of the bets we receive. We expect to receive a much higher volume of bets at Tokyo 2020 than we did at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio,” he added.
