Bangladesh Police attend bKash training session on tracing online gambling financial flows
Rangpur police officers were trained to use mobile financial service transaction data to trace funds and identify individuals and networks involved in online igaming and other crimes.
Bangladesh.- Police in Rangpur district along with mobile financial services provider bKash have strengthened cooperation to investigate the use of digital payment channels for online igaming and related financial crimes. Some 45 investigating officers attended a workshop focused on using transaction data to trace financial flows, identify individuals or groups involved in online igaming and recover customers’ lost funds.
The training also covered how to ensure rapid communication between investigators and bKash officials when incidents occur. The organisers highlighted that digital transactions leave a trace that can help law enforcement agencies follow money linked to online igaming operations. Police, the Detective Branch, the Criminal Investigation Department and the Police Bureau of Investigation can use this information to support investigations.
bKash has been conducting similar training sessions with law enforcement and other stakeholders since 2017. According to the company, around 4,500 officials across Bangladesh have participated in the workshops.
