Australia blocks eight offshore gambling sites
An investigation was launched due to complaints received by ACMA about the withholding of players’ winnings.
Australia.- The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has requested local internet services providers block eight offshore gaming websites.
It has also warned Australian citizens to withdraw any funds held in the eight gambling platforms.
The sites to be blocked are:
- Planet 7 Oz
- Ace Pokies
- Nordicasino
- Reeltastic
- Spintropolis
- Enzo Casino
- Times Square Casino
- Royal Spinz
In a statement ACMA said it set out to investigate the sites due to numerous complaints from users regarding customer treatment and also claims that the companies were withholding players’ winnings.
ACMA found the websites to be operating in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
ACMA said: “Website blocking is one of a range of enforcement options to protect Australians against illegal online gambling. Since the ACMA made its first blocking request in November 2019, 92 illegal gambling websites have been blocked.”
The authorities estimate over 100 sites have already been blocked since Australia enforced new offshore gambling rules in 2017, including 11 gambling websites in July.
